Three very different systems sit under three very different gardens. Here is how each one works, and what it needs from you.
Cesspool
A sealed, watertight tank that stores everything and treats nothing. There is no outlet, so once it is full it has to be tankered away. Common on older rural properties where a drainage field was never possible.

Toilets, sinks, showers and appliances all drain into one sealed tank.
2Nothing comes out
No soakaway, no drainage field. The level simply rises until we empty it.

Leave it later than that and you risk an overflow, contamination and a fine.
